Creative visualization is the conscious use of the imagination for the purpose of centering, overcoming obstacles, attaining goals, increasing self-awareness and generally enhancing the overall quality of life. Using this tool with children can be relatively simple as it is often near to second nature for them. Children have both a natural need and an ability for creative imagination that makes the consciously applied use of imagery almost effortless for them. It certainly makes more sense to them than many other things they are taught! Creative visualization can help children grow up far more aware and centered than they otherwise would, and can help them retain their innate connection with their free creative spirits! It can help show them how to nurture and cherish their own inner world, and develop a stronger healthy self-esteem and sense of inner security.
These creative visualizations have been used by us with children for more than twenty years. They are most effective when the environment is calm and comfortable, such as right before sleep-time, and/or when your child can draw what he or she ‘saw’ in the imagination, right afterward.
